Make sure when shopping for carpet that you are selecting the right fiber for your lifestyle.  Each fiber has strengths and weaknesses that will help you determine which carpet fiber is best for you.

  • Nylon  -  Nylon out performs all other fibers in durability, resilience and ease of maintenance.  Nylon is a good choice if you want your carpet to last many years.
  • Triexta – Triexta is a  newly classified fiber derived partly from corn sugar.  It has excellent, permanent anti-stain properties.  This is a very good choice if you have pets or young children.
  • Polyester -  Also known as PET, polyester is stain resistant, very soft and is available  in very vibrant colors.  The downside to polyester is its harder to clean, will sometimes shed and is not as durable as nylon.
  • Polypropylene (Olefin) -  This fiber is used mostly in commercial and Berber carpets.  It is an inexpensive fiber that is strong and resist fading.  It has good stain, static and mildew resistance.  Olefin is good in high traffic areas.

Before purchasing carpet for your home check the quality.  Determining the carpet density will help determine the quality of the carpet.  Low density carpet is low quality and will crush more easily.  The higher the density, the better the quality.  Density is determined by the thickness of the fibers and how tightly packed they are.  The thicker and heavier they are, the better quality and less likely they are to wear.

Look for carpet that has at least a 10 year “texture retention” warranty.  This covers how well the fibers return to their original shape after being walked on.

Padding – A good padding is also the key to your carpet wearing well.  Our salespeople will discuss the different thicknesses and density of the padding and what best fits your needs.

Proper Installation is also a key to your carpet wearing properly.  The carpet must be stretched properly to not allow for it to come off the tack strip and create humps in the carpet.
